You’re on in 5 minutes…
now is not the time to wonder
if you’re ready.
You’re on in 5 minutes… Are you nervous? Is your throat dry or sore? Do you have allergy interference? Do you know what to do if your answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’? Along with experience, a vocal coach prepares you for any situation.
You’re on in 5 minutes… Have you practiced singing, playing and moving around on stage? Did you pick the right songs? Are you sure they are in the best order for your performance? What if you forget your lyrics? One way to make sure you are totally prepared is to have a vocal coach.
“5 minutes”, 2 lessons or 2 months is not nearly enough time to truly be prepared for your gigs. Personally I have become an expert at trouble shooting for singers for stage and studio because people DO call me “5 minutes” prior to their performance. Yes, I can totally help them and often fix the problem of the moment, but without training another problem will arise, and another, and another. I believe that the worst part about this is that the singer never gets to enjoy their own performances. They are worrying and wondering and stressing and straining. Even veteran professionals get nervous, however they do not question themselves on their way to the stage. In order to ensure consistent, confident, professional and moving performances you NEED a vocal coach.
A singer who is serious about performing will work for months and even years with their voice teacher to learn excellent technique. Along with vocal mechanics, a vocal coach will teach proper mic technique, stage presence, and song delivery. More specifically, you can learn how to choose the right key for each song, put together a set list that will maximize your vocal performance, interact with your audience and your band, warm up according to performance length, and basically learn how to deal with every possible performance situation.
Again, just about everybody gets nervous before performing, but you should never be sweating the small stuff. If you are questioning anything regarding your singing or stage performance on your way to the stage, I strongly suggest investing in yourself by investing in a vocal coach. When you’re on in 5 minutes, you should KNOW that you are ready.
